Abstract
$11 million per incident. Extortion over patient lives is a looming crisis. As a result, HHS is releasing new HPH-Cybersecurity Performance Goals that will include Building Management Systems. This will include monetary incentives and penalties. Building
Management Systems (BMS), including HVACs, Elevators, and Pneumatic Tube Systems, serve as targets to cripple hospital operations and unexpected entry points for malicious actors to enter the clinical network. These vulnerabilities are not to be underestimated,
with thousands of access points through HMIs, PLCs, RTUs, and Engineering Workstations.
IT devices are well into their cybersecurity journey. Clinical Engineering started theirs with medical devices a few years ago. Health facilities management, as a whole, is just getting started. This presentation will take users through the
stages of building a cyber program through the lens of a new cyber-physical maturity model for building management systems (BMS). This presentation will provide attendees with an easy-to-understand, non-cybersecurity speaking “Trip Plan” as landmarks
to help guide your journey, provide basic technology discussions and ensure you have the proper equipment to reach your destination.
- Examine why health facilities management needs to be more involved in cybersecurity.
- Detail the stages of the Claroty Cyber-Physical maturity model and how they apply to building management systems?
- Assess why some vulnerable facility devices are not visible on the network and why IT can’t protect what they can’t see.
- Discover the lessons learned from other facilities management cybersecurity journey.
